Can sunglasses frames be used as eye glasses frames?

I'm getting these way cool ray ban sunglasses, and I adore the frames.All I need is to remove the sunglasses lense, and replace it with my prescription lenses.Is that possible, or is taking out the sunglass lense impossible for Ray Bans?

It all depend on the place you take the glasses to. They would have to craft lenses especially for them, may cost more, and may not be able to do so as lens shapes go with the frames they sell. Also most eyeglass stores will not because of liability (breaking frames not sold by them). But it never hurts to ask around stores anyway :) I hear they will do it in Mexico (if that's an option)

Actually...did some research and, yes, it can be done - Ray Ban lenses are secured in the frame just the same as regular lenses.Take them in and ask them - all lenses have to be cut to the shape of the frame anyway so it doesn't make any difference to the job. As long as the frame is in good condition it should work - they may make you sign a disclaimer as it is used and they do sometimes break in the glazing process.

There are some prescriptions that may not work well or at all. For example if the front of the lens is really curved to make the glasses wrap around your face, you may not be able to put your prescription in them if you are at all near sighted. If both lenses are in one piece, you cant put your prescription in it. Ray Ban makes pretty good frames so they should be OK quality wise. It would be a bad idea to try to have your prescription put in a pair of cheap sunglasses to save money.

This might save you some money. Go on-line to one of the eyeglasses sites and order the Rayban frames you want without lenses and have prescription lenses fitted locally. Or, if you have a current prescription, you can have the on-line place make the glasses for you. This avoids paying for quality sunglasses lenses that are getting removed and thrown out. Note, as the others said, that some of the Rayban styles won't work with prescription lenses.

Yes it can be done.. Be sure that the new lenses are exactly the same as the old lenses... And I suggest that don't do it on your own... Give it to the expert.. There are lots of store that offer services that you need..The only thing you will do is to pay them...

I have found that I actually save money most of the time. Good sunglasses (RayBan, Serengeti) have very solid frames, and very often much cheaper than the store "real" frames.
