I've always wondered if glass-lensed sunglasses are dangerous to wear or not... one would think they're dangerous to the eye in case they break/get smashed in... but are they tempered/shatter-proof in some way that I'm not aware of?
Looks like polycarbonate lenses seem to be the new thing nowadays.

My mother almost had a huge problem when her glass lenses shattered. She got knocked down and her glasses broke, cutting her near her eye - it could have been a lot worse but she was lucky. Apparently, that is not supposed to happen but I know first hand that it did. Recently, I was doing some research and came across a new brand (at least it was new to me) called Kaenon Polarized (I think that's how you spell it) and they have a special lens called SR-91. I compared it to polycarbonate and it totally blew it away. I recommend Kaenon to everyone now and get a few compliment on my glasses as well!

That's commonly the problem of most cautious buyers of glass-lensed sunglasses. They worry about accidents that may broke the glass and the glass pieces might shatter on their eye, If that's the case then buy plastic-lensed glasses, Moreover if you really like glass-lensed then come to think of this why would eye-specialist prescribe their patients with glasses?? it means glass-lensed is made safe in-case of accidents that may damage the eye.
